General Move In Infomation

The residence halls open for the spring semester on Sunday, January 11, 2026 at 12:00pm. Students may arrive directly to their assigned spring semester residence hall anytime after 12:00pm on Sunday, January 11, 2026 to check in to their residence hall and move their belongings in at their own pace.

The earliest date University Student Housing will accept mail and packages for Spring 2026 students will be January 7, 2026. Please do not mail or ship anything to arrive prior to Wednesday, January 7, 2026. Mail service is not offered in the residence halls until January 11, 2026, so any packages that may arrive before that date are stored in a secure location and may not be available for pick-up.

Early Arrival Requests

Early Arrivals MUST be approved before any student will be allowed to move in prior to Sunday, January 11, 2026. If approved, students will be charged $75/night to their student account. If students are part of an early arrival program, please include the program information in the early arrival request. Some programs are offered at no additional cost to the student. Please be sure to communicate regularly with the program's office regarding dates and what costs they are covering. 

Early Arrival requests are available in the Housing Portal. University Student Housing will begin to review requests in mid-December and decisions will be sent by email to the student's preferred email address. 

Meal plans do not start until Sunday, January 11, 2026.

Ski & Bike Lockers

All sign-ups/rentals for lockers are available the Housing Portal,

 Ski & Bike Lockers are ONLY available to those students that live in Yellowstone, Hyalite, Langford, or Hapner Halls. Students in these halls will have the ability to rent a ski locker and/or a spot in the secure bike storage area for the spring semester. There may not be any available for new spring semester students. If you are able to purchase an option you placed yourself on the waitlist, you will receive an email with instructions on how to complete a purchase.

Rentals are $30 for the spring semester.

Please note that Langford and Hapner residents only have access to rent a ski locker as there is no secure bike storage in these halls.

MicroFridge Rentals

MicroFridge© units are perfect for any residence hall room, or suite, and is equipped with a microwave, freezer, and refrigerator all in one attached unit. The MicroFridge© unit is energy efficient and roommates often chose to share a MicroFridge©, as students are only allowed to have one refrigerator per residence hall room.

Students are expected to keep MSU University Student Housing furniture in their room and it must be in the same condition at the end of the year as it was at the beginning of the year when the student moved in.

Microwave (must be UL-Approved), mini refrigerator (up to 4.5 cubic feet), coffee maker, television, computer, fan, alarm clock, water filter, floor lamp, blow dryer, curling iron.

Please note: Air Fryers, Air Conditioners, Toasters/Toaster Ovens and other appliances are not allowed in the halls.  For more information review our Community Standards.
