Fall Break - 2026

Break Housing Registration
Fall Break begins on November 21, 2026 and goes through November 29, 2026.
No classes from November 23-27, 2026. MSU Offices are closed the following dates:
- Thursday, November 26, 2026
- Friday, November 27, 2026
There is no charge for Fall Break as it was included in Fall 2026 Room & Board fees.
The Fall Break Registration form will be available online starting October 14, 2026. Please note that residence hall services will be limited during this time. Hapner and North Hedges Hall Front Desks will be open to help with questions during Fall Break. All other front desks will be closed.
If a student requires housing at any time during Fall Break, they are expected to register for Fall Break Housing.

Winter Break - 2026

Break Housing Registration
The Montana State University Hall close for Winter Break on Saturday, December 19, 2026 at 1:00pm and remain closed through Sunday, January 10, 2027 at 12:00pm. Fees for housing and meals during this time are not included in 2026 fall semester and 2027 spring semester room and board fees.
Any student staying in the residence halls during Winter Break must register for break housing and agree to pay the $25 per night Winter Break Housing fees ($550 for the entire break). Fees will be applied to student accounts and no payment is due at the time of registration.
Students who are not registered for Winter Break will need to vacate the residence halls by 1:00pm on Saturday, December 19, 2026.
Students may leave their belongings in their room over the break, but are encouraged to take the items ehy need with them during this time. If a student needs to reenter their room without staying the night during Winter Break, there is a reentry charge of $20 per instance (charged to the student account) and the student must complete a Reentry Contract.
Students moving off-campus or leaving Montana State after the Fall 2026 semester are not eligible for Winter Break Housing and need to be checked out of their rooms by 1:00pm on Saturday, December 19, 2026.
These accommodations are for residents only. Visitors and/or overnight guests are not allowed in the residence halls during Winter Break. Keep your CatCard with you at all times, as you may not be able to enter your residence hall without it. Mail delivery may be delayed or unavailable during Winter Break depending on front desk and staffing availability.
Dining halls will be closed during the break, therefore meals will not be available. Please make other arrangements for meals during the break. Your spring meal plan will not begin until dinner at one of the dining halls on Sunday, January 10, 2027. Dining hall availability will be updated here as plans are finalized.
MSU Offices will be closed on the following days:
- Friday, December 25, 2026
- Friday, January 1, 2027

Spring Break - 2027

Break Housing Registration
Spring Break begins on March 13, 2027 and goes through March 21, 2027.
No classes from March 15-19, 2027. MSU Offices are open.
There is no charge for Spring Break as it was included in Spring 2027 Room & Board fees.
The Spring Break Registration form will be available online starting February 17, 2027. Please note that residence hall services will be limited during this time. Hapner and North Hedges Hall Front Desks will be open to help with questions during Spring Break. All other front desks will be closed.
If a student requires housing at any time during Spring Break, they are expected to register for Spring Break Housing.

The terms of policies and procedures outlined in the Residence Hall Community Standards and the MSU Student Code of Conduct will be in full effect. All policy violations discovered during this time will be documented and processed through the University Student Housing conduct system.
