Recent work has focused on algorithmic literacy and machine UX - how bots and AI create particular types of user experiences and knowledge patterns.

William Culpepper

William Culpepper,  Assistant Professor of Art, College of Art and Architecture

 Professor Culpepper’s research explores how generative AI can advance design education and transform healthcare design through critical AI literacy, investigating the creative and pedagogical intersections of emerging technologies with socially responsible design practices. I examine the potential of AI tools in solving complex design challenges while preparing students to engage thoughtfully with technology, positioning design as a bridge between innovation, community needs, and ethical creative practices.

Research interests center on AI jurisprudence, regulatory competency, and agile approaches to healthcare AI regulation, governance, and accountability. Additional areas of focus include the responsible use of predictive AI in pragmatic, adaptive clinical trials; participatory co-design; sustainable AI innovation led by under-engaged communities; and equitable data commons.

Research interests include AI and digital technologies in pre-K-12 Education, as well as the social and ethical impacts of AI for Tribal Nations and Indigenous data sovereignty.

Paul Nugent

Paul Nugent, Assistant Professor of Land Resources and Environmental Sciences, College of Agriculture

Dr. Nuggent’s research focuses on precision agriculture, exploring the use of trainable algorithms, such as object classification and artificial intelligence models, to drive innovation in agricultural practices and enable data-driven decision-making.
