Mission

To catalyze new interdisciplinary research on artificial intelligence (AI) technologies for the benefit of Montana and Montanans, including both basic and applied research on the technical, educational, ethical, and social dimensions of AI. 

Goals

  • Examine how AI technologies can enable and enhance knowledge production.
  • Facilitate interdisciplinary collaborations and expertise needed to address problems that AI might help solve or that AI might create.
  • Critically evaluate AI technologies and assess their implications for Montana, the nation and the world.
  • Create opportunities for dialogue between researchers and communities to understand community needs and around AI and disseminate knowledge about AI technologies.

 

We promote these goals through:

  • Helping build interdisciplinary research teams
  • Providing seed funding
  • Organizing speakers, workshops, and events
  • Providing support for external grant proposals related to AI.
