“For me, the greatest value in the McNair Program came from the funding that provided a summer research opportunity.  By spending a summer in Dr. Stephen Sofie’s lab at MSU, I was able to interact with graduate students and faculty in a research environment, which really helped me to gain an understanding of what graduate school was all about, and at the same time provided a competitive edge in applying to graduate programs.  My experience during the summer ultimately led to my decision to remain at MSU for my Ph.D. work.”
