FAQ's
What is 4-H?
4-H is a non-formal educational, youth development program offered to individuals
age 5 to 18. Youth are involved in hands-on, experiential learning that allows learning
by doing. All 4-H programs focus on active involvement and quality experiences which
stimulate lifelong learning of values and skills.
Who can join?
Youth, age 5 -18 as of October 1 of the current enrollment year, may join. Youth that
are ages 8 and older are considered regular Youth Members. Youth that are ages 5-7 are considered Cloverbuds and have a more limited project selection (i.e Cloverbud Project, Horseless Horse,
Cat, Rabbit Breed/Pet & Poultry Breed/Show ONLY).
What can I do in 4-H?
Popular projects include, dog obedience, baking, shooting sports, robotics, leathercraft,
horse, livestock (ex. sheep, swine, poultry), and teen leadership are just a few of
the many projects offered in 4-H. Check out the project list linked above to view
the complete list for the current year.
When should I sign up?
Returning 4-H members must be re-enrolled by October 31st each year. New youth members must be enrolled no later than our county's 4-H enrollment deadline of January 15th to take advantage of all 4-H opportunities, including participation in the Fair.
Enrolling early and participating in as much as possible in our program is really important. The later you join, the more you miss out on. We have an on-boarding New 4-H Family Orientation in October/November of each year that covers crucial information for our program as a whole, deadlines, and requirements. Many clubs and projects also have orientation meetings and important information pertinent to a successful project is given in the first few meetings.
4-H is a big commitment and we want to be sure our youth and parents are set up for success from the start. Our program is run entirely by volunteers and if we continue to allow late enrollments past our deadlines, it is much harder for the volunteers to catch those newcomers up to the rest of the group.
