Janet Ore

Director

Janet Ore is a Teaching Professor in MSU’s Department of History and Philosophy where she teaches US history, public history, and historic preservation. Born and raised in Montana, in 2016, Janet Ore returned to the state after several decades teaching in Colorado State University’s History Department. Ore received her BA from Carroll College, her MA from Washington State University, and her PhD from the University of Utah where she specialized in twentieth-century US and vernacular architectural history. Her book, The Seattle Bungalow: People and Houses, 1900 to 1940 reflects the intertwining of these two fields. Ore’s historic preservation expertise has been useful to public land agencies like the US Forest Service and National Park Service that need historical research. Administered through the Ivan Doig Center, these grant contracts have provided paid positions for faculty and students to conduct research in cultural resources.
