What does the Student Outreach Coordinator do?

TheStudent Outreach Coordinator works collaboratively with Writing Center staff to manage the Center’s marketing and outreach. Through their communication work, the SOC contributes to creating a campus-wide community of writing support and enacting the MSU Writing Center’s mission and commitments.

What are the job qualifications?

Primary job duties include  

  • designing physical and digital material to promote the Writing Center; 
  • assisting with Writing Center events; 
  • providing necessary administrative support; 
  • communicating efficiently and effectively with staff and partners.  

Applicants must 

  • currently be enrolled at MSU or Gallatin College, full or part-time, 
  • be available to work 10 - 15 hours/week, 
  • demonstrate interest in outreach and communications work, 
  • demonstrate strong verbal and written communication skills, 
  • be prepared to support MSU Writing Center's mission and commitments, and 
  • be a curious and dedicated learner. 

Preferred qualifications: 

  • Major or minor in Marketing, Graphic Design, English Writing or Film & Photography 
  • Experience with web content management and design software  
  • Proficiency with Microsoft 365 
  • Demonstrated potential for meaningful contributions to the diversity and excellence of the MSU Writing Center 

*GPA is a blunt measure of a student’s academic health. If you have extenuating circumstances that have caused your GPA to drop below 3.0 and you’d still like to apply, please explain your situation in your cover letter. 

Is this a paid position?

Yes. The Student Outreach Coordinator position starts at $16/hour.
