Description of Request

Submitted By: Diane Debinski, Ecology Dept. Head; Alex Zale, Unit Leader MT Co-Op Fisheries

The Montana Cooperative Fishery Research Unit is currently located in the basement Hall of AJMJ Hall, with director and assistant director offices located in Lewis Hall. The Co-Op’s current lab has a fume hood and fish necropsy sink, however, it is poorly suited for the sample preparation and microscopy activities currently conducted by the unit. Therefore, the group has requested to relocate the research unit into the vacant basement of Lewis Hall in order to create more efficiencies in the use of space and bring all operations into one building. The space previously accommodated the Mazer lab and non-human primate research activities, but has been vacant for several years. There are currently no other requests for this space. By vacating the lab and graduate student space in AJMJ Hall, it would create a lab vacancy that the Ecology department hopes to reallocate to a new incoming Conservation Genetics tenure-track faculty member and other future hires. Per an agreement between Microbiology & Cell Biology and Ecology departments, Lewis Hall room 002B will be utilized by an incoming Ecology tenure track hire, and room 002C will be assigned to incoming Microbiology tenure track hire.

Date: February 3, 2023

Space Management Committee has approved the relocation of the Montana Cooperative Fishery Research Unit Lab into various research labs/lab service areas and graduate students spaces in the Lewis Hall basement (Lewis Hall 004-008 and 018).
