Description of Request

Submitted By: Wan-Yuan Kuo & Sophia Seffrood (FPDL), Stephen Peters (ROTC)

The Food Product Development Lab (FPDL) Extrusion Unit receives large quantities of dry ingredients in bulk. The contents arrive and are stored in 4-gallon pails, totes, pallets, large garbage bins, and other container types, which take up large quantities of space. As a result, their research and testing operations have outgrown their current space, thus prompting this request for additional storage space in Harrison Hall. Room 134, which is located directly across the hall from the Extrusion Lab, and room 057 in the basement, for non-food items, have been identified for this purpose. The FDPL has received the necessary approval from the university sanitarian, Dustin Schreiner, to store food grade items in room 134. The allocation of these additional rooms will help accommodate the growth of the FDPL lab as well as create more efficient storage solutions
Currently, Harrison 134 is assigned to ROTC and is utilized as an issue point for gear as well as occasional storage, but the space is not utilized very frequently. ROTC is willing to relinquish room 134 for use by the FDPL lab, in exchange for unfinished space in room 106X Harrison Hall, which is currently only accessible through ROTC’s caged storage area. The space is unfinished and would need lighting installed, miscellaneous outlets added throughout the space, floor patch to level the concrete and remove tripping hazards, and framing off and sheet rocking a few walls within the space. No long-term plan has been identified for the space and it is currently unutilized. Norm Asbjornson College of Engineering will fund the improvements in conjunction with Education Health & Human Development funds. ROTC will use room 106X primarily as storage for their Army Combat Fitness Test (ACFT) gear and Organizational Clothing and Individual Equipment (OCIE), as well as occasional laser rifle training for cadets.
