University Information Technology (UIT) Student Public Printing Station: Romney Hall
Description of Request
Submitted By: Joshua Turner, UIT, Director of User Services
When Romney Hall was renovated, it did not include plans to incorporate a public print station anywhere throughout the building. The Writing Center, located on the second floor of Romney Hall, contacted University Information Technology (UIT) to discuss the possibility of installing a public print station, as currently they are sending students to the Library or the SUB for their printing needs. Campus Planning, Design & Construction (CPDC) staff consulted with UIT staff and have identified two potential locations to install a CatCard enabled public printing station within Romney Hall; the 2nd floor of Romney Hall, in close proximity to the Writing Center, and the common collision space/study space on the south side of the 4th floor. While the exact location is yet to be determined, CPDC staff will consult with Work Control, UIT Networking, and other appropriate groups to determine the most appropriate location for installation based on ease of access to existing wiring infrastructure, accessibility, cost, etc., and will work with the furniture manufacturer to procure a table that meets ADA requirements and matches existing furniture within the building. Romney Hall is heavily utilized and the inclusion of a public student print station would be beneficial to all users.
