Our Embroidery Machine is free to use with the caveat that you cannot be running the machine 24/7. This is meant to be for small scale projects!

The machine is a Janome MB-4Se. We have 3 hoop sizes available: 50x50 mm, 126x110 mm, and 240x200 mm. At this time, you can only run flats on this machine, we don't have the proper equipment to embroider hats.

Software Requirements

None if you would like to use the pre-existing designs or make your own text on the machine itseld.

If you would like to make your own file, the Makerspace recommends Inkscape partnered with the InkStitch extension to make your file. It is free to use. There are other softwares you can use to make your own files if you wish!

Power button is on the side. Turn on the machine and follow the prompts on the touchpad. To load a design, select from either the catalog or USB Drive. The "editing" tab is the second to top button if you need to tweak the design. Once you are satisfied, see how the design looks. The embroidery machine has 4 needles to set 4 colors at a time. If your design requires more than 4 colors, you can have more, you'll simply need to switch out the threads during the run process. Set your colors, hoop your design, and check the sizing of things. Your design MUST be smaller than the size of the hoop. The machine will prompt you before you run the design with the appropriate hoop size. Once you've hooped your article of fabric, push the hoop into the track on the machine, ensuring that the hoop is latched. Check your article to make sure no fabric is caught between the top needle and the bobbin area. Do a double check to esure the design, placement, rotation, and hoop size are all correct. Press the start button on the machine. Monitor the stitches to make sure no loose thread and no snagging of fabric is ocurring. Change out thread as necessary if you have numerous colors. Once the machine is done, pull the hoop up and off of the machine, and de-hoop your article. You are done! Enjoy your embroidered project!
