Weed Resources
Unfortunately Lake County is home to many invasive species of plants from the Montana Noxious Weed list. Whether you are a forage producer, rangeland steward, or backyard gardener, these hardy plants can take sophisticated measures to manage. To help you in your battle against these survivors we have compiled some resources below.
Lake County Weed Control
Lake County has our very own weed control department. The Weed Department provides education, outreach, and technical support to help landowners and communities manage noxious weeds. Services include assisting with weed identification and management planning, providing guidance on control methods, and offering training and resources related to weed management. The department also works to control weeds on county lands, responds to public concerns, and helps connect residents with tools, equipment, and other resources to support effective weed management.

Extension Invasive Plant Specialist
The Lake County Extension office works with Jane Mangold the Extension Invasive Plant Specialist based in Bozeman. She performs research and provides educational materials. See below for some of the resources from her and her department.
Private Pesticide Applicator Licensing
The Lake County Extension office facilitates the Montana Private Applicator Training (PAT) Program is through the Montana Pesticide Act and an agreement with the Montana Department of Agriculture (MDA) stipulating the certification and training of approximately 5,000 private applicators in Montana.
The PAT program is for individuals who need to apply restricted use pesticides (RUPs) to land they or their employer own, rent or lease for agricultural purposes. This includes privately owned farms, ranches, nurseries, and greenhouses. Other pesticide applicators who do not need a license can also benefit from the training offered from this program.
