Trouble Accessing Canvas?

If you're having trouble logging in to Canvas, review the steps below before contacting support.

Before You Contact Support

Please verify the following:

  • You are registered for Orientation (new students) or at least one course (current students).
  • You do not have any registration holds.
  • You have allowed up to 2 business days for your account to be created (new students).
  • You have reset your NetID password.

1. Confirm Your Registration Status

New Students

Make sure you're registered for Orientation.

After you register, your Active Directory (AD) account is created and added to Canvas.

Please allow up to 2 business days after registering for Orientation for your Canvas account to become available.

Once your account has been created, you must reset your NetID password before you can log in to Canvas.

If you recently registered for Orientation, it is normal for Canvas access to take up to 2 business days to become available.

Current Students

To access Canvas, you must be registered for at least one current or upcoming course.

2. Check for Registration Holds

Registration holds can prevent you from registering for Orientation or courses, which may delay or prevent access to Canvas.

Review any holds in MyInfo or NavMSU. Once any holds have been resolved and you've successfully registered for classes, your Canvas access should become available.

If you have a Prevention Education/Thriving Together hold, email thrivingtogether@montana.edu to request that the hold be temporarily lifted so you can register.

3. Reset Your NetID Password

If you've completed the steps above and still can't access Canvas, try resetting your NetID password.
