Department of Animal and Range Sciences are looking to hire work-study students interested in research.
Application screening will begin on October 15, 2025. However, applications will
continue to be accepted until an adequate applicant is established.
This position would be best suited for:
•Undergraduate students in Animal Sciences, Range Sciences, or related
fields.
•Students with experience managing or feeding cattle, ruminal collection, in
vitro incubations, and rangeland management are appreciated but not
mandatory.
•Interest in animal production, particularly in beef cattle, as well as in
rangeland production.
•Enthusiasm for learning research techniques and lab protocols.
•Interest in publishing scientific publications.
Brief Position Overview: As member of the Ruminant Nutrition Lab, the selected undergraduate students
will:
•Participate in and support research efforts, projects, and research initiatives.
•Provide labor support by assisting with field work, collection, laboratory
protocols and analysis of research results.
•Learn several research techniques, data entry, statistical analysis, and
scientific writing; and
•Potentially will be able to present data at a National Conference.
Duties and Responsibilities
•Collection of ruminal fluid
•Sampling and processing of plants and forages
•Assisting in-vitro batch culture incubations•Supporting sample processing at the laboratory
•Supporting data entry and analysis
•Planting and maintaining experimental legume and grass plots
Salary: This is a work-study position. MSU’s Financial Aid Office will assist the
student in determining the pay rate.

Undergraduate Administrative Assistant with Montana State University Food Product Development Lab

Description:
This role is a work-study position with the Montana State University Food Product Development Lab that is curated for an undergraduate student who can take on various administrative tasks, also preferably is currently enrolled in a food and nutrition, agriculture, or hospitality-related major. Responsibilities of this role include aiding the culinary team in emailing and scheduling industry project clients, as well as doing nutritional calculations, and hands-on kitchen trials. It also may include aiding in social media posting and content creation. This role requires, on average, 5-10 hours per week.
Responsibilities:
- Send and respond to emails regarding scheduling and new client applications
- Update project progress spreadsheet as needed
- Aid in social media posting/content creation
- Collaborate with the culinary team to calculate nutritional values
- Research nutrition-related content according to industry project needs (such as meeting the USDA school meal standards)
- Communicate with the Food Product Development team via in-person meetings, Microsoft Teams and Outlook.
Qualifications:
- Undergraduate Standing (part- or full-time)
- Well-versed in email etiquette and professional communication
- Ability and interest in helping with social media content and posting
- Ability to calculate basic nutritional values and support recipe reformulation to meet certain nutrient requirements
- Proficient at Microsoft Word and Excel
- Preferably, currently enrolled in either Dietetics or Nutrition Science, agriculture, hospitality, or related fields
Pay rate: 17-21/h
